A woman from the United States has just shared a massive cultural contrast between Australians and Americans in terms of escalators.

During the latest episode of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, the US born caller said that she noticed a different approach to Australians and Americans riding the moving steps. The listener told the hosts of the Australian breakfast show: "People here get the s**ts if you don't move to the left.

"It's an unwritten rule…in the States, they don't really have that. You don't see that tension when you have to move." Host Jackie 'O' Henderson, agreed with the caller, saying it was an 'unwritten rule'.

The woman then added that most Americans don't move up the escalators they 'just sit and wait.'

Jackie said: "That's frustrating for us because for Australians, if we want to go faster, that right lane needs to be clear. It's so annoying if someone's just standing in the right lane."

The caller agreed: "Yeah so I always tell Americans you got to move to the left."

Jackie then mused how curious it was that keeping to the left was similar to the way Australian road rules work.

"Isn't it funny how the walking direction mirrors the driving direction?" she said.

The conversation took place a day after Kyle Sandilands, Jackie's co-host, dramatically left the studio just 11 minutes into the show.

The 52-year-old radio personality stormed out of the studio in a fit of anger after a heated argument with co-host Jackie about Covid-19 during their live broadcast.

Jackie later revealed Kyle had apologised to her for the outburst and attributed it to the medication he was taking to manage a rotator cuff injury.
