TUI has issued a travel warning for British tourists flying from Birmingham and Gatwick airports in July.

It said: “We are aware of the upcoming strikes at Birmingham Airport from Tuesday July 18. During this time, we have measures in place to minimise disruption for our customers as much as possible.

“We would like to reassure our customers that we are working with the airport on contingency plans to make their journey through the airport as smooth as possible.”

The holiday provider said it would be in touch with customers to offer further information on their flight if necessary.

Passengers flying from Gatwick between July 28 and August 1 and August 4 and August 8 have been warned of strike action.

TUI said it was currently working with Gatwick to find out any possible impact on its customers.

What’s happening at Birmingham Airport?

Some employees are going on strike on July 18 which could impact flights and cause delays or cancellations.

Staff are striking over pay and rejected an offer from the airport. The airport said it was working with partners to limit the impact on holidaymakers.

A Unite spokesperson said: “Birmingham must do better if it wants to end this dispute before strikes commence on July 18. The anger over low pay is such that the number of striking workers has increased to 150 and is growing by the day.”

What’s happening at Gatwick Airport?

Staff across a range of roles at Gatwick Airport are due to take part in eight days of action starting at the end of July.

Around 1,000 staff are expected to join the strikes which the union has said will cause “inevitable” disruption.

What are passengers’ rights?

Airlines usually aren’t required to offer compensation if the striking workers aren’t employed by the airline.

However, passengers should be offered an alternative flight if their flight is cancelled due to the strikes.

The strikes could be called off if the union is able to reach an agreement with the airport involved.
