Italy has some of the world’s most famous attractions but tourists might find their experience less than relaxing. Tourists have complained about the huge crowds at Rome’s Trevi Fountain.
A whopping 85 feet tall, the breathtaking Trevi Fountain was completed in 1762 and is one of Europe’s most visited attractions. Around 1,200 people visit the fountain every hour.
While the fountain is undoubtedly one of Rome’s must-see landmarks, tourists have complained that the experience is extremely hectic.
One tourist ‘julbo1974’ wrote on Reddit: “Trevi…next time I’ll just buy a postcard from three blocks away since that’s about as close as I got anyhow.”
On Tripadvisor, another visitor ‘soinic’, wrote: “The sea of people! Some of them behave disrespectfully. Noisy and stressful ambiance! Hectic!

“People pushing each other around. Watch your belongings, because the police are there to protect the fountain, not the tourists!”
Tourists will need to take care at the Trevi Fountain as it’s one of Europe’s top pickpocketing hotspots. The heavy crowds can make it easy for thieves to sneak items out of people’s bags.
Another tourist wrote: “Fountain was beautiful but way too many people there and no one has common decency or consideration to move. It’s a gaggle of people. Try going late at night or very early in the morning to avoid the crowds.”

The Fountain is nearly always busy but it’s likely to be quietest during the early morning or late at night. Tourists could also try visiting some of Rome’s lesser known attractions.
One tourist said: “The best times we had in Rome were in the evening when we bought a square of pizza and a beer and went to the little plazas behind the main roads.
“Sat there watching buskers, painters, families, some tourists, just chilling out and enjoying the ambiance. We had better times relaxing then we did at any of the attractions.”
Even the UK isn’t immune from crowds and England’s most crowded attraction has been described as “chaotic”. Europe’s most overcrowded attraction is a popular Scottish landmark.
Tourists looking to escape the crowds on a staycation might want to visit one of the country’s best hidden gems.
The Malvern Hills are home to some of the UK’s oldest rocks but don’t get nearly as many visitors as famous spots such as the Lake District and Peak District.
