The world’s best city to work in is ideal for British expats

British expats often move overseas to find a new job opportunity but where’s the best country in the world to work?

According to the latest InterNations Expat Insider survey, Amsterdam is the best city in the world for workers.

Nearly three quarters of expats living in Amsterdam said moving to the Netherlands had improved their career prospects.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to see that almost 80 percent of people in the city are satisfied with their personal career opportunities.

Even better, expats also rated the city’s work-life balance positively and felt they didn’t have to work too many hours.

A Mexican expat living in the city said: “The work-life balance is awesome”. Expats generally work 40.5 hours a week in Amsterdam, shorter than the global average of 42.7.

Amsterdam scored highly when it came to flexible working too with 84 percent able to work remotely at least some of the time.

The most popular fields to work in for expats were IT, finance, advertising, marketing and communication.

More than nine in 10 people agreed that the local business culture supported flexibility and 81 percent thought it promoted independent work.

Expats loved the city’s economy and job security, overall making Amsterdam a great place to look for a job.

English is widely spoken in the Netherlands and it’s estimated that over 90 percent of people speak it proficiently.
