Traveling with pets, once somewhat restricted and thought of as a luxury for those with smaller animals, has quickly become an important way travelers both decide on how and where to book their next trip. A new survey conducted by American Express Travel reveals that traveling with pets is on the rise, with 43 percent of survey respondents saying they’d like to book travel to a place where they can bring along their furry friend.

And with a recent proliferation of both pet-friendly accommodations, package offerings, and flexibility on larger pets and types of pets, traveling with a four-legged friend shows no signs of slowing down. As a consequence, hotels and resorts are focused on offering the best possible experience to make pets and pet parents comfortable, and in many cases, they literally roll out the red carpet for them. Here are just some of the best pet-friendly hotels across the U.S. right now.

Few places are more appealing to active pet parents and pets alike than Sun Valley, which may be famed for skiing but boasts lots of outdoor activities year-round. If your pup loves lazing around in the sun, opt for one of the many Terrace Rooms, which have large terraces to take in the never-ending sunshine no matter the season. Pets are welcome in most parts of this hotel, and complimentary bowls and placemats are provided, with a $30 cleaning fee per pet, per night. Things we love about this hotel: It’s located across the street from a park and is walking distance to the charming seaside town of Cape May, not to mention a quick drive from North Cape May’s most popular dog beach, which has seasonal times for visitors with a pet. There are dog-friendly wineries, al fresco and dog-friendly restaurants in town, and lots of contemporary beach charm within the rooms, including surfboards mounted above each of the comfy beds.

One of our nation’s capitol’s newest boutique hotels to hit the scene is in the coveted and pet-forward Dupont Circle neighborhood. The Lyle offers a subtle nod to its Art Deco beginnings throughout its design, and a home-like, residential feel that will instantly comfort pets and pet owners to new surroundings. Four-legged guests are in for a treat (literally), which include homemade snacks plus the simple pleasure of a cozy dog bed. The hotel is down the block from the S Street Dog Park and an easy walk to neighboring sections of Adams Morgan and Logan Circle. The pet fees won’t break the bank, either, as guests who book the Paws of Lyle package will have waived pet amenity fees. 5. Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile (Kanab, UT)

You could say this place is big on pets. In fact, you’re likely to have a photo of a precious pooch, pretty kitty or furry bunny stationed above your hotel bed when you overnight, and outside the hotel, you’re likely to peep a dog statue and murals of animals painted on the walls. Consider this: Starting in May, Cooper will host a weekly meet-and-greet social hour each Friday to welcome guests to the property, which is located in the Green Mountains, with a complimentary glass of wine.

Traveling with a pet is great, but it can sometimes be a hassle to figure out which local spots are pet-friendly or, ahem—not that we’ve done this or anything, will turn a blind eye to certain adorable faces. At boutique charmer Origin Hotel Lexington, which is filled with lots of locally-inspired details, they take the guesswork out of traveling with a pet by providing a local “pup guide” to highlight all of the pooch-friendly spots in town. The $50 fee also includes pet bowls and a bed during your pet’s stay, but more importantly, an on-theme, locally crafted swag bag that includes a Kentucky-inspired chew toy (aka a bottle of bourbon squeak toy), a bowtie and selections of wholesome treats.

There’s plenty of incentive to stay at 21c Museum Hotels, the boutique hotel-meets-museum chain concept that’s already taken over cities including Nashville, Cincinnati, Kansas City and more. This one’s for all the fanatical ball chasers out there! Already celebrated as Vermont’s finest year-round resort, Topnotch’s Tennis Center makes a visit here extra special by providing pets a three-pack of tennis balls so your trusted companion can chase them around until he or she tuckers out. The property also boasts a dedicated floor with pet-friendly rooms, so you can mingle and make friends with neighbors, not to mention many places to stretch out and play fetch, like Topnotch’s various lawns and nearby hiking trails. Prior to the pandemic, the resort even did a special reiki and massage for dogs, and while it’s on pause for the moment, a rep tells us they anticipate offering it up again after Vermont loosens restrictions.

If you and your pet consider yourselves sophisticated, cosmopolitan types, then boy do we have the hotel for you. The recently-opened Lotte Hotel Seattle is big on luxe, trendy little design details, stellar views, and a prime location within walking distance of everything downtown Emerald City has to offer. 16. Little River Inn (Mendocino, CA)

This laid back, coastal California inn boasts stunning views of the ocean, plus personal hot tubs off many of the rooms. While your pooch won’t partake in said heated, bubbly water bath, they can get onto the water in a completely unique way. That’s because Little River Inn offers the incomparable experience of a kayaking trip with your dog, in which you and your pet can sit on what a rep promises us is a purpose-built, super-stable and specially designed kayak craft. Active dogs will also love the miles of hiking trails surrounding Little River Inn, and lazier pets will enjoy cozying up next to a fireplace or feasting al fresco with their owners in the lovely outdoor dining area.

If discovering a new park is your thing with your pet, checking into this charming St. Louis hotel—which also happens to boast a pretty great seasonal pool and handsome terrace—will be a no-brainer. The hotel is walking distance from the historic, picturesque Forest Park. Look—we can all use a chillout session every once in a while, and the same rings true for our pets. For supreme relaxation, this highly Instagrammable hotel—which is super hot on the Charleston scene right now—allows pets to cool down by offering them CBD-infused treats upon request. 21. Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale (Paradise Valley, AZ)

Treat your pup to a luxe little getaway with The Pampered Pup Package, because nothing could more accurately describe how you like to spoil him or her. 22. St. Regis Aspen Resort (Aspen, CO)

Pets are well-welcomed at this handsome Aspen hotel, where a very lucky Bernese Mountain dog named Kitty lives as the pet-in-residence. Kitty is a great companion to travelers with pets who want to make a buddy, and even those visitors who are sans pet but are pleased to be surrounded by puppy love. Kitty is in the process of hiring a Fur Butler (but of course!) who will manage the hotel mascot’s day-to-day activities, including walks, airport greetings, playdates, and more, a rep for the hotel tells us. Should you happen to fill a day on Aspen’s famed slopes or choose to get out into its sublime nature in the warmer months, dog walking and dog sitting services are also available for a fee at the St. Regis Aspen Resort.

Nobody loves paying pet fees to bring their pooch along, but forking over that cash is a little more palatable at Red Lion Hotel. That’s because the fee is a cool $25 per stay, and even better, $10 of the fee is donated to Olympic Peninsula Humane Society. Our advice: Active dogs with lots of energy will love this location, which is nestled between the beautiful Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic National Park, and so will you!

24. MC Hotel (Montclair, NJ)

If your pet is as food-obsessed as us, they’ll appreciate MC Hotel’s culinary pooch offerings. The hotel’s Executive Chef, Amber Lancaster—who you might recognize as currently appearing on season 19 of Hell’s Kitchen—has created a special menu for pets at this hotel. Located in New Jersey’s charming cultural art and food hub of Montclair, just 30-40 minutes outside NYC, the menu items include a “Doggie Hash” with ground beef and rice and a “Ruff Age” dish featuring spinach, kale, and salmon. For humans, Lancaster impresses guests with tasty dishes at MC’s exquisite Allegory, an open-air restaurant adjacent to the lobby.

One of the only pet-friendly hotels located on Hawaii’s famed Waikiki Beach, this eclectic, retro-influenced hotel, which has an adorable “Wish You Were Here” tiled pool, is popular with pet owners for its many pet amenities. These include a complimentary dog-walking and doggie day-care service that picks up dogs directly from the hotel lobby, and Jack, The Surfjack’s Dog Concierge, who is available for play dates on the beach. Their most unique offering, though, is easily the surfing and paddle boarding lessons available with Surfjack’s partner, SUPDog Hawaii which specializes in water lesson activities for dogs.

26. Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel – Norfolk, VA
