However, some Brits may be dreaming of a further flung destination – and Thailand could be just the place with its white sand beaches, tropical plants, incredible moon parties and of course royal palaces and ancient temples.

The best part is that there are ways to bag a week's stay for just £27.

Lastminute.com has a clever search tool that lets you find the cheapest stays for your chosen dates – including hotels that start from just £3 per person, per night.

Simply opt for the 'hotel only' option and search your departure airport, and chosen destination.

Then, click on the date section and select “flexible” – you can also select how long you’d like to stay for.

From there you can either select the best month for you, or, for the most incredible finds, choose “anytime”.

You can then filter the options by price and find the cheapest accommodation available that works for you.

When we did this, we found a room at the 3* Silver Resortel in Patong beach for just £3 a night – meaning you can bag a week's stay for just £21. Rooms are based on two people sharing, so that's actually £10.50 each!

Although the rooms are fairly basic, the Resortel has a mini market on-site and even offers massages.

Rooms as cheap as this must be found through the search tool on LasteMinute.com as advised.

The hotels themselves usually have higher prices per room on the official page and the cheapest rates are one-time offers for specific dates.

We also found rooms for as little as £7 per night all-in.

The Elixir Hotel in Bangkok is offering such a trip for next February, meaning you’ll spend just £52 in total on your room for the week.

The Elixir is based in the capital and has BBQ facilities, daily housekeeping and even bike tours available.

Of course you'll also need flights, and these won't be quite as cheap, but there are ways to find deals.

SkyScanner found returns from £481 per person, while British Airways has direct flights from the UK to Bangkok with options to then change for flights to the likes of Phuket.
