Holidays are on everyone’s minds as summer hits Britain and we all crave some extra sunshine.
But, if you’re a parent then you may feel heading abroad simply isn’t worth the money as flight prices skyrocket over the school holidays.
And, you’d be right to worry as you can save hundreds travelling outside of school breaks as holiday companies cash in on the restricted dates families can head overseas.
However, there is one trick you can try which may make a summer trip more affordable.
Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s travel trends and destination expert, recommended that brits living in the North of England head over the border to Scotland’s airports.
Flying from a Scottish airport like Edinburgh or Glasgow could save you a fortune in the school holidays, reports the Sun.
This is because Scotland’s summer holidays fall on different dates than those in England or Wales meaning peak times are different – and so are peak prices.
The hack really does work too as direct return flights from Edinburgh to Alicante between August 20 and August 27 with Ryanair would set you back £532 for a family of four.
This is compared to similar return flights from Newcastle to Alicante on the same dates which would cost £892 for four with Ryanair.
That’s a saving of £360!
Similarly, direct return flights from Edinburgh to Faro in Portugal for the same week cost £448 for a family of four with Ryanair.
Whereas if you get comparable flights from Manchester to Faro for the same week a family of four will pay £704.
