As a member of the Royal Family, it is part of the job to travel around the globe representing the nation. No one knows this better than Queen Elizabeth herself, who has spanned the entire globe an estimated 42 times.

Of course, when the Monarch does travel, it is nothing like the holiday experience a regular traveller has.

In fact, according to Paul Burrell former servant of the British Royal Household and latterly butler to Diana, Princess of Wales, she does so in “a most wonderful way”.

The experience begins at Heathrow Airport, where the monarchy tends to travel from most frequently on long-haul expeditions.

What’s more, the perks aren’t only reserved for Her Majesty.

Everyone from Prince Philip to Prince George also gets to experience the luxurious airport “suite”.

As part of the Channel 5 documentary, The Royals on Holiday, Mr Burrell explained: “There’s a special suite at Heathrow airport called the Spelthorne Suite which deals with incoming and outgoing royals.

“You just drive to the suite and then walk to the aeroplane.

“It is a wonderful way of travelling.”

The Spelthorne suite is located in Heathrow’s Terminal 5, which tends to be home to British Airways aeroplanes.

In a previous Channel 5 documentary titled Secrets of the Royal Flight, insiders offer a glimpse into what this lavish private lounge looks like,

The footage in the programme shows scenes of polished floors and a glass roof said to be made from “bombproof glass”.

It is here that the Royal Family can kick back and relax pre-flight, although according to insiders some members-only make it to the terminal in the nick of time.

According to Royal Commentator Emily Andrews: “It’s basically like a posh hotel lounge, where they just turn about 40 minutes to an hour before if that.”

She added: “Sometimes Prince Harry, in particular, has literally turned up half an hour before a flight screeching into the Windsor Suite.”

This dedicated royal lounge means members of the Monarchy are able to side-step the usual rigmarole of passport check-in and security.

However, this does not mean there are no identity checks in place.

In fact, all member’s of the Royal Family must carry there own passport.

That is, of course, with the exception of Queen Elizabeth herself.

Queen Elizabeth is the only person in the UK who does not carry a passport.

This is because all passports in the country are issued under the name of Her Majesty.

UK passports include the inscription: “Her Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.”

Despite this, she must undergo strict identity checks.

In The Royals on Holiday, British journalist Carole Malone explained: “The Queen doesn’t need a passport.

“But what she does have to do is she has to go through an ID check.

“She has to say who she is, how old she is, her date of birth and where she lives.

“She has to give an address and everything.

“Most people know where she lives – Buckingham Palace.”
