The debate around plane etiquette has been rumbling on in recent months with issues of reclining and undressing taking the internet by storm.
But it is no surprise that the most common bone of contention is still seat swapping.
Most recently, the discussion was reignited once again after an episode of popular animated sitcom Family Guy resurfaced.
It showed Stewie and Brian Griffin refusing to give up their seats so that a family could sit together in a scene that left viewers bitterly divided.
The debate was reignited once again as Stewie and Brian Griffin refused to give up their seats in a Family Guy scene that left viewers bitterly divided
In the clip, which featured in Season 10 of the hit show, the duo can be seen on board the plane alongside a gentleman in the window seat.
His wife approaches carrying a small child in her arms as she politely asks: ‘Excuse me, do you mind if we switch seats so my family can sit altogether?’
But the proposition is quickly rebutted.
Stewie states: ‘No, no, we don’t switch.’
The woman is undeterred as she calmly continues: ‘Because when we booked, they didn’t have three together.’
She is suddenly interrupted by Stewie who shows little sign of budging as he passionately adds: ‘Ma’am, ma’am, your poor planning does not constitute an emergency.
‘You’ll see him in Paris, go sit down.’
The wife then shuffles out of shot, presumably to return to her seat, as Stewie and Brian continue with their previous conversation.

In one camp, there were those that believed it was right not to swap seats as one wrote: ‘Stewie is right. I’m sick of ‘seat cheaters’ – either pay extra or go home…’
And viewers were left bitterly divided in the comments.

Another added: ‘Nothing irritates me more than when this happens.’
And a third said: ‘As someone who works in the airline industry. Stewie is 200 per cent right. Getting married or having a [child] doesn’t entitle you special privileges.’
But, on the other hand, there were those that said Stewie and Brian were being selfish for no reason.

‘I don’t see what the big deal is to move, it’s not like Brian and Stevie will be worse off,’ one user shared.
Someone else said: ‘I can’t imagine being this petty. Unless you get a much worse seat there’s no reason not to let people sit together.
‘It’s often the airlines ‘fault’ this, you have to pay premium to chose seats beforehand, all so they can sneak some extra money from people. Passengers really should help [each other].’
Another simply wrote: ‘Selfish much?’
