Pretty winter destination is 19 degrees in December

Winter has well and truly arrived in the UK. If the cold weather feels a little brutal, luckily a sunny December break is only a short flight away.

Albufeira, a coastal city in Portugal’s popular Algarve region, is under three hours flight from the UK and temperatures can be as high as 19 degrees in December.

The former fishing village is now a thriving holiday destination with a busy nightlife district as well as plenty of family friendly activities.

Although the resort’s prime season is summer, tourists will find there’s still plenty to do in the winter.

Despite being a busy holiday resort, Albufeira’s old town is still a pretty spot which reflects its former fishing past.

‘GlobetrottingViking’ said: “The old town of Albufeira is beautiful with cobbled streets and typical white-washed houses. There are plenty of restaurants and bars, and a lively nightlife.”

At night, the town tends to become more of a nightlife hotspot and many bars offer a huge menu of cheap drinks.

Praia da Oura is a Blue Flag beach with golden sand while Praia Sao Rafael’s rock formations are spectacular in any season.

The Algarve is known for seafood and while some restaurants close over the winter season, tourists will still have plenty to choose from.
