Located in the heart of the picturesque village of Melbourne, Derbyshire, the former place of worship has only been welcoming guests since June this year. While this building still retains its character from the exterior, inside visitors will not find rows of pews but instead a cosy, contemporary getaway.
Up to five people can stay at a time, where they step through original double wooden doors since the mid 1800’s and through to an open plan kitchen and dining area.
Chapter Two – Melbourne was bought back in March by AirBnb superhost Victoria, who completely renovated the former dwelling owned by the couple for 30 years.
She said: “The church was converted in the 1980s Into residential. The couple who bought it lived there the whole time, until they sold it this year. They had not done much to it since the conversion back in the 1980s.
“We have a holiday let in Ashbourne, and we weren’t really looking to buy another especially with the pandemic but when we saw the church up for sale we just loved it and thought it would make such a quirky staycation.
“It’s right in the village centre in Melbourne, which has some amazing boutique shops, cafes and bars and great walks on the doorstep. We love the area.”
Holiday-goers can relax guilt-free around the large Chesterfield sofa and the electric log burner or share a glass of wine around the bespoke solid Ash worktops.
If the British weather treats you kindly, there is even a Mediterranean themed patio garden area to unwind in with festoon lighting to set the mood.
Up the black iron spiral staircase lies two bedrooms one with a king sized bed, both rooms feature exposed wooden beams that provide the unique designs and beautiful views overlooking the village.
Paying homage to its Victorian origins, the bathroom has a Victoria roll top bath and toilet, with a waterfall feature alongside the stand alone shower.
Pet owners looking to bring their pets along are also welcome, with the former church a fully enclosed area and the Peak District a short drive away.
The church was built in the 1860s and converted in the 1980s Into residential. The couple who bought it in the 80s have lived there the whole time, until they sold it this year.
Despite only being open for business for a few weeks, Chapter Two – Melbourne has received critical acclaim from users, having a perfect five out of five on AirBnb.
One reviewer said: “What a characterful place to stay! It’s central to the amenities and places of interest in Melbourne itself as well as being a handy base from which to explore the Peak District.”
Another guest commented: “This spot is perfect for a relaxing weekend. Right in the centre of Melbourne, everything is a stone throw away. The house is so comfy, stylish and homely.
“We made an error with the booking and had a few last minute changes, but Victoria and Adam were super helpful and understanding. Really appreciated it. I 100% recommend this place.”
And holidaymakers are not short of places of interest that are nearby to check out, the town of Bakewell and stately home Chatsworth House are over an hours drive away.
Grade I listed country house Calke Abbey and Staunton Harold Reservoir are both less than ten minutes away if you want quintessential Britishness.
Anyone looking for a last minute stay best book quick, Chapter Melbourne is almost booked up for September and October is running out fast.
