Michael Gove fails to confirm when UK lockdown will end
Flights and holidays have been cancelled as the UK enters much tougher measures in a dramatic response to the worsening coronavirus situation. Some airlines have axed getaways into next month while others have taken limited action – what has your carrier done? Here are the latest updates and travel advice from British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI and Jet2.
British Airways
BA has said if your flight or holiday is cancelled it will let you know. Customers will be duly contacted with options if so. Alternatively, holidaymakers can rebook or claim a voucher online.
The airline is currently operating a “reduced and dynamic schedule”.
Britsh Airways are urging travellers to make sure their contact details are up to date in Manage My Booking so they can get in touch with you.
The carrier reminded customers their book with confidence commitment means you have the option to change your booking date and destination or even cancel it completely.

easyJet
easyJet is “reviewing all holiday bookings” and getting in touch with those affected.
Customers will be able to request refunds for cancelled trips.
“Following the Prime Minister’s announcement this evening and the implications for international travel from the UK, we are reviewing all holiday bookings,” an easyJet spokeswoman said.
“We will be contacting customers whose holidays can no longer go ahead with the option of cancelling for easyJet holidays credit which can be used to rebook an alternative holiday, or customers can choose a full refund back to their original payment method.
“We’re really proud that we’ve been able to average 12 days to process refunds.
“We will also be in touch with customers with later departure dates to remind them of our easyJet holidays Protection Promise which offers ultimate flexibility and reassurance.”
Ryanair
Ryanair has been reluctant to cancel flights as the result of lockdowns throughout the pandemic.
Its most recent announcement concerns flights that had to be axed after a number of countries decided to ban UK flights last month amid concerns over the new covid strain.
Ryanair said: “Ryanair is processing cancellations for all flights to/from the UK that have been banned by EU governments regulation. All affected customers will receive an email notification and they will be offered practical alternatives including a free move or refund if they so wish.
“A small number of flights will operate to/from the UK primarily to facilitate UK passengers stranded abroad and to support passengers who need to travel for essential reasons.
“For passengers (booked on these operating flights) who do not wish to travel prior to January 17, Ryanair will facilitate a flight change, where no change fee will apply (any difference in fare will be charged), to any new date up to March 15, 2021. Any passenger whose flight has been cancelled can also move to these operating flights, subject to availability.
“All flight changes can be made directly on Ryanair.com.”
TUI
TUI holidays due to start today have been cancelled, with the tour operator to update customers with travel plans in the coming weeks shortly.
Travellers will be able to receive a refund or amend their dates.
“As a result of the latest national lockdown announced by the UK Government, all TUI holidays due to depart on Tuesday, January 5 will not operate,” said TUI.
“Impacted customers will automatically receive a refund and should not travel to the airport. We’ll update customers due to travel from Wednesday, January 6 until mid-February in the coming days.
“If holidays are cancelled, customers will receive a full refund or incentive to amend to any holiday that’s currently on sale. Customers currently overseas can continue to enjoy their holidays as planned and we will update them directly if there are any changes to their holidays.”
The tour operator previously announced fights to Madeira were cancelled up to and including January 31 as were holidays to the Canary Islands up to and including January 14.
Jet2
Jet2 have cancelled all flights and holidays until early mid-February with the exception of flights and its Ireland programme.
A Jet2.com spokesperson said: “Due to the ongoing uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and government travel restrictions, we have taken the decision to extend the suspension of flights and holidays up to and including February 11, 2021.
“Where customers yet to travel are affected by any programme changes, we have been repeatedly recognised for how we have been looking after them, and we will be automatically cancelling these bookings with a full refund.
“For customers due to travel from February 12 onwards, we will provide another update closer to the time.
“Customers should note that this announcement does not apply to our ski flights or Iceland programme. We are keeping these programmes under review and we will advise customers accordingly.”
