Flight attendants confess to playing ‘crop dusting’ game when they need to fart

There’s nothing worse than being stuck on the plane next to a gassy holidaymaker.

Fart smell in a confined space can make us want to reach for the oxygen masks.

And many of us would blame passengers sitting in front or beside us for the unpleasant smells.

But flight attendants have confessed they are often the ones to blame for the odour.

They even have a term used to describe breaking wind mid-flight – and it’s called “crop dusting”.

While they’re letting rip, sneaky cabin crew members walk up and down the aisle pretending to check seat belts and other safety measures.

“If you fly frequently theres a high chance a flight attendant has farted right by your head as they walked down the aisle.”

And another replied: “If you are a real professional (20 years here) you gauge your farts so lightly to spread in the entire length of the cabin (A330) while you walk briskly faking being busy with something urgent.

“It took me a few years to develop the technique.”

Before we get too angry at cabin crew, we have to take into account that flying can make you feel more gassy.

Ross McDonagh, a student of airline history, told Quora that many cabin crew members complain about feeling bloated during journeys.

Jacob Rosenberg, a clinical professor at the University of Copenhagen, believes this is due to pressure dropping in the cabins.

Apparently, the gas inside our stomachs expands by 30% when we’re on a flight.

We’ll let the cabin crew off in that case…
