Flight attendant reveals the WILDEST stunts passengers pull to try and get upgraded to first class – as she lifts the lid on how plane staff are really trained to deal with them
- Destanie, 25, who flies domestically, shared how people attempt to upgrade
- She said some passengers will angle for an upgrade to business class
- However, she said many also try for a surprising seat change – to the exit row
Everyone arrives at the airport with the hope they’ll be ungraded to first class – but one flight attendant has now revealed the very extreme lengths that some people go to for a little bit of luxury in the sky.
Flight attendant Destanie, who often posts her travel tips and tricks to TikTok, shared what the flight staff do if they find someone in a seat class they’re not meant to be in.
According to the 25-year-old, who doesn’t share what airline she works for, they would ‘never allow that.’
‘If someone wants to switch cabins or even get an upgrade, that’s to be dealt with with the gate agent,’ the Philadelphia native explained. ‘Flight attendants do not deal with any of that.’

Philadelphia native said flight attendants don’t deal with seat changes – the gate agents do
She went to explain that some people have told her the airline she works for even consider giving people upgrades as stealing because the passenger didn’t pay for the ticket.
‘Usually first class is always full,’ she added. ‘So people don’t really have the room to pull some stupid stuff.’
If there are spaces in first class, Destanie, who often shares videos to TikTok about her life as a flight attendant, says they have a sort of tier system to allocating the empty seats.
‘If you have a credit card or if you have some status with the airline, they usually end up upgrading people,’ she explained.
‘There have been multiple times that men have hit on me thinking that I’m gonna move them to first class,’ Destanie laughed. ‘Because they told me I was pretty.’
She even shared a story from a few months ago when a man tried this tactic, walking up to her and telling her she’s ‘so pretty.’
‘Like, this is the most beautiful cabin crew I’ve ever seen,’ the man reportedly said.
Destanie said she clued on to what he wanted after pointing out he could spot an empty first class seat.
‘I literally dead a** looked at him and I was like, “I’m not gonna take that compliment now,”‘ she said.

TikTok users shared some of their own experiences when flying as passengers, or even as part of the cabin crew
However, the flight attendant revealed it wasn’t the first class seats people are usually angling for when they board the aircraft.
‘What people all the time pull is they try to move to the exit rows,’ she shared. ‘Exit rows are upgraded seats and for my airline you get like free cocktails when you sit in the exit row.’
She added the exit rows are not immune from people trying to sneak their way into the seat.
‘One time this guy moved and he literally argued with me back and forth,’ she recalled.
Destanie said the man argued ‘back and forth,’ telling her he was able to assist in an emergency – which she pointe out was not how it worked.
‘You can’t move to the seat, It’s an upgraded seat,’ she explained.
Some TikTok users took to the app to share their own flight experiences and thoughts on the matter.
‘I got moved to first class when I was flying with my newborn and was having a hard time! The flight attendant was amazing for that,’ one woman gushed.
‘Free cocktails in exit row?’ one said incredulously. ‘I always assumed they wanted sober(ish) people in those. I worry if I’m in an exit row Ill get the side eye for having a few.’
‘I’m a gate agent and have huge respect for my colleagues in the cabin. I can’t imagine being stuck with those not so nice pax for HOURS,’ a TikTok user wrote.
The flights attendant ended the TikTok by saying she’s nice, but firm when it comes to dealing with customers.
‘Like, I just want to be nice at first, but, like, you do have to move,’ she said.
