Europe’s most affordable romantic city break for 2024 named

Whether it be a secluded staycation or a luxurious trip abroad, going away together is seen as a significant step in any relationship.

Paris and Rome are widely considered two of the most romantic cities in the world, but a visit to either can be costly.

With that being said, new research from PayingTooMuch has revealed Europe’s cheapest romantic getaways for couples.

Analysing a variety of metrics such as the average cost of a three-course meal for two and the average cost of accommodation per night, the top 10 most affordable romantic destinations in Europe were determined.

1. Seville, Spain

Seville is the cheapest European city for a romantic holiday, with accommodation costing an average of £78.25 per night and dinner setting you back £34.99.

Home to beautiful architecture and delicious tapas, Seville is the perfect setting for an amorous escape.

2. Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul is the second cheapest European city for a romantic couples getaway, with the average cost of accommodation per night just £41.50.

Full of breathtaking landmarks and home to a vibrant nightlife scene, this incredible intercontinental city is well worth adding to your future travel plans.

3. Porto, Portugal

The Portuguese city of Porto is the third cheapest city for a romantic European holiday, with the average cost of a three-course meal for two coming in at just £34.40.

A favourite with Brits thanks to its affordability in general, the intimate atmosphere makes Porto a definite must-visit for couples.

4. Budapest, Hungary

Budapest comes in at fourth in the list of Europe’s cheapest romantic getaways, and the cheapest place to buy a bottle of wine – with an average bottle setting you back £4.03.

The Hungarian capital is one of the best cities in Europe thanks to its unique charm and array of things to see and do.

5. Madrid, Spain

The second Spanish city in the top five, Madrid is the fifth cheapest city for a romantic holiday in Europe.

Somewhat often overlooked by tourists in favour of other Spanish destinations, Madrid is an underrated, and affordable, city with a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere for a capital city.
