You belong among the wildflowers, especially right now as the season kicks into high gear.

Colorado’s wildflowers are poppin’ and in many places the season is close to peak, said Nanette Kuich, education director for the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Vail.

“It all depends on what elevation you’re at of course. Lower elevations are going to be warmer, while higher elevations are going to be cooler. But the alpines that we’ve looked at on Loveland Pass are out right now,” she said.

Blooms may have been delayed slightly by cool spring temperatures, Kuich said, but thanks to “great moisture and warm weather” the flora is now decorating mountainsides throughout the state. Better still: Wildflower season may last longer this year compared to last year because of cooler and wetter conditions.

“It’s raining here right now, so that is good for the flowers,” Kuich said Tuesday.
