Brits rush to book Australia trips ahead of Lionesses’ World Cup Final

Football might finally be coming home as England’s Lionesses beat hosts of the World Cup Australia to Sunday’s final. The outstanding game saw our players bag us a spot against Spain to maybe bring the cup back to the UK later this week.

The win means that Lioness fans are now scrambling to get a last minute flight to Sydney to watch the game. Analysis of Google data shows that online searches for ‘flights to Australia’ exploded 179% after the Brits won the game.

Booking.com has also reported a 200% increase in searches to Sydney from travellers in Spain and a 35% increase from UK travellers ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final this weekend.

The cheapest flights we could find from London to Sydney were on Skyscanner for £601. However, this was before adding the dates to correspond with the World Cup Final.

Some of the cheapest flights leaving the UK today or on Saturday had so many layovers that tourists wouldn’t make it down under until Monday. Meaning they would miss the game!

However, one flight from London Heathrow to Amman Queen Alia, Jordan, gollowed by a flight to Bangkok, Thailand, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and finally Sydney would get you to Australia by 9.45am on Sunday. It would set you back from £1,225.

A 26-hour journey from Heathrow to Sydney via Shanghai costing £1,262 would probably be your best bet when travelling this weekend. But, you might never want to return once you’ve seen what Aus has to offer on top of the football.

Thousands of Brits ditch the UK for Australia every year. Plus, getting a working holiday visa for under 35's has just got easier.

Cressida Barrett, a freelance producer and art consultant, moved to Sydney just last year from Brill, in Buckinghamshire. She claims the major draw of the nation is its glorious lifestyle.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Cressida, who posts about her life on Instagram, @cressida_barrett, said: "I moved to Australia six months ago and I had never been here before. The wages are slightly better than London, but rent is slightly more expensive also so it probably equals out.

"I live 60 seconds from the beach and the quality of life out here is incredible. I feel alive living here and that I am really benefiting from what the outdoors has to offer.

"I also do morning workouts on the beach whilst the sun rises, it’s pretty epic. The Australians are so so friendly. Possibly the friendliest people ever! Extremely welcoming to Brits as well, but I guess that’s because there’s so many of us here."
