The InterNations Expat Insider City Ranking asked expats to rank their city based on important factors. Expats rated their home on affordability, friendliness, environment and work life.

Dubai was the highest ranked city in the Middle East and was the third best city in the world for British expats.

Over 80 percent of expats thought that local people in Dubai were friendly towards foreign residents.

One expat said: “They are warm, welcoming and friendly.”

Around three quarters of expats felt at home in Dubai while almost 60 percent found it easy to make friends.

British expats moving to Dubai will need to prepare for the searing summer temperatures which can surpass 40 degrees.

However, life in Dubai is very well adapted to the heat and expats will find housing, shopping malls and attractions have good air conditioning.

Nearly all of the expats felt safe in the city while 86 percent said housing was easy to find for foreigners.

Expats will need to make sure they are aware of Dubai’s laws on public displays of affection, alcohol and antisocial behaviour before relocating.

The second best expat destination in the Middle East was the capital of Qatar, Doha.

Soon to draw the attention of the globe for the 2022 World Cup, Doha was rated the 15th best city for expats in the world.

Around 90 percent of expats thought it was easy to live there without knowing the language while 64 percent were happy with their social life.

The city was ranked the highest in the world when it came to healthcare which 90 percent of expats rated positively.

One expat said: “I feel extremely safe here with a good healthcare system.”

There are more than two million expats living in Qatar and Qataris are actually the minority in the country at just 12 percent of the population.

The third best destination for British expats in the Middle East was the busy city of Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

Over 90 percent of expats felt safe in Abu Dhabi while nine in 10 were also happy with the quality of healthcare.

The fourth best destination for British expats in the Middle East was Muscat, the capital of Oman.

Muscat was rated as one of the friendliest cities in the world and 85 percent of expats thought local people were welcoming to foreigners.

One expat said: “The people are so kind and friendly.”

Around 75 percent of expats felt at home in Muscat while just under 70 percent found it easy to adapt to the local culture.
