Expedia Group found that many British tourists are looking to discover new places and destinations in 2023.
In the UK, Vrbo data showed that searches for converted barn holiday homes increased by more than 50 percent.
As Brits look to get back to nature, demand for holiday homes in these hidden gem destination surged by over 40 percent on Vrbo.
The UK’s top hidden gem was Cambridgeshire where tourists will be able to find plenty to amuse them.
Cambridgeshire’s top rated attraction on Tripadvisor is the Fitzwilliam Museum, the University of Cambridge’s principal museum.
A tourist wrote on Tripadvisor: “A beautiful building with quite an array of exhibits. Enjoyed the impressionist paintings.”
Ely Cathedral, which dates back to 1083, is also one of the county’s top attractions and even has a stained glass museum.
A visitor wrote: “Absolutely beautiful cathedral to walk around and plenty of information. Highly recommend.”
Peterborough Cathedral and Houghton Mill were also top-rated hotspots in beautiful Cambridgeshire.
Leicestershire and Hertfordshire were the UK’s next best hidden gems while Buckinghamshire also made the top five.
Three Scottish destinations made the list with South Ayrshire, East Lothian and Midlothian all seeing a surge in interest.
Monmouthshire was the only Welsh destination to make the list and is the perfect spot for a bracing winter walk.
Expedia Group also found that tourists were looking for once in a lifetime experiences following the pandemic.
Many tourists were also looking to cut down on costs by booking self-catered accommodation.
Brits were also looking for fancy kitchen features in their holiday homes such as coffee machines and air fryers.
Converted barns and farmhouses have also become more popular with Vrbo seeing searches for those types of properties increase by 50 percent.
