Benidorm is Brits’ favourite holiday with 88p pints, racy shows and epic parties

We Brits love to jet abroad whether that’s hopping over to France, flying out to Greece, Italy, Turkey or further to the USA or Australia. But, we love one hotspot more than any other according to recent data and it’s good old Benidorm, on the Costa Blanca.

Holiday provider Travel Republic has analysed several metrics including search volume data and TikTok data to reveal the top trending holiday destinations of 2023 and the results are in. Benidorm, in Spain, took to top spot with ease with over 550,000 searches in the last 12 months and over 158 million views on TikTok.

The sunny town is known for its beautiful beaches – there’s even a nudist one just up the coast – and lively nightlife. According to two fans you can find a pint for as cheap as 88p and drink free shots all night at the clubs.

They also say you can find a £2.50 fry up which sounds like a great way to save money to us. Since the pandemic, Benidorm has seen a renewed surge in popularity, attracting more tourists than locals because of the town’s affordability. In fact, you can find holidays to Benidorm with flights and a hotel from just £144 per person on LiveHolidays. Those who prefer to book their own way can bag flights from £29 for a return according to Skyscanner.

On Booking.com – for June 2024 – you can rent out an entire apartment for just £53 a night. A stay in a dorm-style hostel will cost even less at just £21 a night (just be careful not to get hostel and hotel mixed up as Grumet and Dazza Benidorm did).

It’s not just the affordability of Benidorm that consistently brings in Brits though. There are dozens of bars, clubs and shows that offer something very different to the norm.

It’s to be expected when the party town was home to icon Sticky Vicky – a dancer known for shooting ping-pong balls, machetes and razor blades from her vagina – for 35 years. The illusionist passed away last week aged 80, but her daughter Maria continues the show.

She will be performing at the Benidorm Palladium and Rockerfellas Cabaret from December 23. So anyone who wants to blow their mind with something not available in the UK can head there soon.

Plus, the legendary Vicky Leyton’s act has also led to the rise of other extreme shows. Jade Benidorm runs a stripper show at a Benidorm bar where she whips, strips and pegs men on their stag dos!

It’s not all sex shows though as performer Ben Alexander does tributes to Take That and Neil Diamond. That’s a bit more high-brow if you’re going on a family holiday.

Outside of entertainment, there’s lots of natural beauty around Benidorm. Nearby Algar waterfalls feature a beautiful natural swimming pool and crashing water from the rocks above.

It’s a great place for Instagram-worthy photos or for a refreshing change of pace from the town below. You can combine a trip to the waterfalls with a tour of Guadalest – mountainous town in the area that’s filled with the ruins of a castle and church on the edge of a clifftop. The views from the cliff are gorgeous with three high mountains and a blue river below.

A day trip with pick up is listed at £24.29 per adult on TripAdvisor and the reviews give it 4.5 stars out of five. The day trip to Guadalest and Algar waterfalls from Benidorm has a huge 192 five star ratings too.
