The stunning abodes are located in the likes of Provence, Chile, California and Florence. Scroll down to view them in reverse order. Which one would be your top pick?

10. Floating House, Joanopolis, Brazil – £175 ($240) per night

This off-the-grid dwelling in Brazil has become a bucket list item for thousands

Airbnb’s ranking kicks off with this aerial shot by @franparente of a prototype off-the-grid house in Brazil.

The rental company says: ‘It’s less than a two-hour drive from Sao Paolo — yet feels like a world away.

‘Homemade beer and sweets await you at the pier, and an endless sea awaits you on your private dock.’

9. Idyll Haus, Idyllwild-Pine Cove, California, United States – £237 ($325) per night

A ‘lovingly restored’ 1962 A-frame chalet that one Instagram user describes as simply ‘dreamy’

This wintry shot whisks us to the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California, and to Superhost Anthony’s ‘lovingly restored’ 1962 A-frame chalet.

The listing says: ‘If you are looking for a beautifully designed, peaceful place to relax and unplug from busy city life, this is it.’

Instagram user ‘decoratizewithfaith’ spoke for us all when she commented ‘dreamy!’.

8. Window to the Duomo, Florence, Italy – £84 ($115) per night

Sensational location: The incredible view from this Florence Airbnb looks like a painting – almost too good to be true

‘The iconic Florence Cathedral or “Duomo” takes centre stage in this incredible shot captured by @girlgoneabroad inside an exceptionally well-located artist studio,’ says Airbnb.

It adds: ‘Dani, your Superhost, designed the place for creative solitude, but you’ll hardly feel alone. Just ask and she’ll point you to her favourite walks and restaurants away from the crowds.’

Mamma mia!

7. Dreamy A-Frame, Pond Eddy, New York, United States – £288 ($395) per night

Snuggliness factor: It’s said that this A-frame cabin gets cosier with every inch of snow

Darby House is a beautiful A-frame home tucked away in the woods alongside the Delaware River.

Airbnb says: ‘It’s simple science – Superhost Karli’s upstate cabin gets cosier with every inch of snow.

‘A spot next to the crackling fire is nice, but to achieve peak snuggliness, you’ll need to climb into the bedroom loft. Even the two-hour drive from NYC feels restorative, especially when you’re meandering high above the Delaware River on the Hawk’s Nest Highway.’

The beautiful image of the property was taken by @darby.houseupstate.

6. 19th Century Schoolhouse, Kingston, New York, United States – £365 ($500) per night

This converted schoolhouse is cute as a button on the outside, and beautiful on the inside, as this image shows

This is the beautiful interior of a gorgeous converted old schoolhouse in upstate New York, as captured by @lizaherlands_.

And it’s as cute as a button from the outside.

Reviewer Kristen says: ‘It’s not every day that you get to stay in such a unique piece of history. [It’s] exactly as pictured and retains so much of its original character, along with stylish, period-specific updates. The neighborhood is super-quiet and convenient to everything the Hudson Valley has to offer. A comfortable and relaxing escape.’

 5. Casa Mama, Pioneertown, California, United States – from £218 ($299) per night

If you’re looking for a post-lockdown escape from the bustle, this could be the perfect abode

Airbnb’s summary of this shot will no doubt resonate with many.

It says: ‘Captured by @workingholidaystudio, this image of a pueblo-style home in the Californian desert gives us just enough of a glimpse to trigger maximum wanderlust.’

Phone reception apparently doesn’t exist there, but that’s part of the appeal. Reviewer Shannon says: ‘Casa Mami is the perfect place to get away. It is so tranquil and relaxing. There is no cell service and the wifi is pretty spotty so prepare to be completely unplugged, which is exactly what we were looking for. We will 100 per cent be returning.’

4. Tanglebloom Cabin, Brookline, Vermont, United States

Guests in this open-air glamping cabin sleep surrounded by screened ‘walls’ that let in the breeze (and keep out the bugs)

Tucked away in a forested grove on a flower farm, this handmade open-air glamping cabin has been perfectly captured by its hosts.

It lies around a three-hour drive from Boston and sleeps two.

The listing says: ‘The sleeping cabin is cozy and minimalist with screened “walls” that let in the breeze – and keep out the bugs.’

3. Lakeview Lodge, San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala – £58 ($79) per night

For the crater good: This villa offers sensational views of the volcanoes of Lake Atitlan

With a stunning panorama of mesmerising Lake Atitlan, this glass-fronted villa perched at an altitude of 5,250ft (1,600m) upon the hills is Instagram heaven.

The lake formed in an enormous caldera created by a volcanic eruption 84,000 years ago. Today the shores are home to three volcanoes.

The owners, with some justification, call their dwelling ‘Volcanoview Lodge’.

2. The Best View of Quintay, Casablanca, Chile – £124 ($170) per night

One reviewer was moved to describe this property as the best Airbnb she’d ever stayed in

The view from this coastal cabin in the Valparaiso region of Chile is truly breathtaking, Airbnb rightly points out.

This photograph of it, by @diana.a.r.r, has clocked up over 67,000 likes. There are undoubtedly many more to come.

Reviewer Nicki wrote: ‘The best Airbnb we have ever stayed in. Eduardo is a great host and the loft itself is equipped with everything you need. Unforgettable views!’

 1. Stone Cottage, Saint Victor la Coste, Provence, France – £177 ($242) per night

Fanstasyland: One reviewer described this Airbnb as being in a ‘magical parallel universe’

Cue drum roll. This is the most-liked photo on Airbnb’s Instagram profile in 2020. It was taken by @bonitte and has amassed over 76,000 likes.

It shows the outdoor pool of Chateau St Victor la Coste in Provence, a 16th-century dwelling that makes for a truly unforgettable getaway.

The reviews, unsurprisingly, are glowing. Helena wrote: ‘We spent four days in the magical parallel universe of Chateau st Victor la Coste. Due to the heat, we spent a lot of time by the pool, reading books, listening to the life of the garden, watching yellow butterflies flying around the roses. Alison and Costas were more than you could ever ask for in hosts. Approachable, genuine and a great sense of humour.’
