Alaska Airlines and Japan Airlines (JAL) hope to expand their codeshare arrangement, beginning May 10.
In a March 28 application with the DOT, JAL asked for expedited approval to begin offering Alaska codeshares on all its flights between the U.S. and Japan.
The carrier said that at first it intends to display Alaska’s code on its seven routes from the West Coast. They connect Los Angeles with Tokyo Haneda, Tokyo Narita and Osaka; San Francisco with the two Tokyo airports; and Seattle and San Diego with Narita.
JAL also flies from Boston, Dallas, New York JFK and Honolulu.
Alaska and JAL commenced their codeshare partnership in 2016 and also offer a frequent flyer partnership.
Currently, JAL customers can fly onward on Alaska within the U.S. and to Canada and Mexico via codeshares.
