The Four Seasons Resort Lanai’s Manele Golf Course took Golfweek’s top spot for best public-access golf course in Hawaii, overtaking the former leader, Kapalua (Plantation). To be considered for this category, a course must allow public access in some fashion.
“Besides being No. 1 among Hawaii’s public-access layouts, it ties for No. 32 among all modern courses built since 1960 in the U.S.,” wrote Golfweek.

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the oceanfront course was designed on lava outcroppings, and three holes are situated on seaside cliffs. Some holes use the Pacific Ocean as a water hazard.
“This award is a testament to the commitment and efforts of every individual on our golf team, from our professional staff and colleagues in the Pro Shop to our stellar maintenance crew that keeps our greens in the best shape for play for our guests,” said Alastair McAlpine, general manager of the Four Seasons Resort Lanai.
