Ocean Club in Turks and Caicos launches a carbon calculator: Travel Weekly

Ocean Club Resorts, two all-suite resorts along Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos, has introduced a carbon footprint calculator as a way to give guests an opportunity to calculate their trip-generated carbon emissions and offset them with verified projects.

The effort was done in partnership with Wayaj, which offers solutions that reduce environmental impact within the hospitality industry.

On the resort’s website, guests can enter information such as room type, number of guests and days, and then are shown the amount of CO2 emissions their stay would generate. Guests can then purchase credits to help fund carbon offset projects, including wind power projects in the Philippines and India.

“Our team has long stood committed to exploring ecofriendly practices that are both innovative and add value to the overall guest experience,” said Ocean Club Resorts managing director Wilbert Mason. “Guests will now have the opportunity to easily support sustainability initiatives for the betterment of the global community.”

The resort is the first in Turks and Caicos to have achieved Green Globe Certification, which strives for sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism worldwide.
