I’m not a very good all-inclusive resort guest.
I love all-inclusives, especially the ones I visit in Mexico. But try as I might to avoid it, I usually have to work while I’m there. Often for me, duty takes precedent over pool drinks, chaise lounges and long walks along the beach.
Apparently, I’m not alone, because last fall the Sensira Resort & Spa Riviera Maya launched a partnership with Remo to create collaborative workspaces, the first of which are available here in Cancun. They’re cozy, private pods that people can reserve for remote work; it’s like a private business center but so much more comfortable — and with a view.
Sensira offers four individual pod workspaces, each of which comes with high-speed internet, ergonomically designed furniture, a terrace, hot coffee and tea, bottled water and food and beverage service. For digital nomads or travelers who cannot avoid being offline while away on vacation, these are the perfect solution.
I checked into my private workspace, which starts at $40 to reserve. The room was wonderfully equipped with everything I needed to get several hours of work done. Each of the pods have a desk and chair, and guests can also reserve a space that also includes a larger, more comfortable chair that faces the window. I opted for the one with that chair because I like to work reclining with my feet up; it was nice to sit there and look out over the sprawling mangrove forests that sit behind the resort. What’s neat, as well, is that the windows are one-way, meaning people outside the pods cannot see in. It really feels like you’re tucked away from the rest of the world, keeping things productive, but not isolated away in a freezing (and humdrum) business center.
But a Cancun getaway can’t be all work and no play. And as you might expect, the 359-key, Sensira Resort & Spa Riviera Maya has all the trimmings for a truly impressive all-inclusive vacation. I checked into an Amber Suite, which is part of the resort’s adults-only section (most of the place is family-friendly). The Amber Suites have ocean views, hydromassage tubs, butler service and access to the private Bar Lounge. The Bar Lounge also happens to be another great spot to get work done, where you have easy access to a bar and snacks throughout the day.
Dining options abound at the resort, as well. La Pergola is the all-day buffet-style restaurant, where the food here was always fresh. Made-to-order omelets, a healthy grill station for lunch and fresh fruit and vegetables were among the standouts here.
One of the most exclusive dining experiences at Sensira is the Galerie Des Sens, a restaurant inspired by the Louvre, with checkered floors and replicas of artwork, and featuring an experimental and gastronomic menu with wine pairings. The restaurant is adults-only, and a reservation is required. Another restaurant highlight was La Finca de Ana, the Mexican restaurant. The carne asada with guac and the octopus tostada were memorable there.
As for entertainment and activities, Sensira has some satisfying options. Adults will love the Knights English Pub, which is decked out with big-screen televisions, a pool table and whimsical portraits of animals dressed as English nobles. For those who crave the late-night party, the resort’s on-site S-Club disco will so the trick.
For those who want a little extra pampering, the Inspiration Spa & Gallery has nine treatment rooms, as well as a hydrotherapy circuit, steam room, and sauna. Kids can even get in on the fun with a Kids Studio that offers manicures for little ones.
For kids and teens, the resort features a Baby Explore Club for kids ages one to three, an Adventure Club for kids four to 12, and an Emoji Teens Club for teens ages 12 to 17. Additional activities include a climbing wall, biplane, and Aquapark with fountains and water chutes.
