United Airlines launched a new nonstop, year-round service between its Washington/Dulles hub and Cape Town.
United’s new flight from Cape Town is the first-ever nonstop service between Washington and South Africa’s legislative capital, Cape Town. The new route, which will flown three times a week, joins United’s existing nonstop, three-times weekly service between Newark and Cape Town, as well as daily service from Newark and Johannesburg.
The D.C.-Cape Town flight will depart Washington at 6:40 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving in Cape Town the following day at 4:10 p.m. local time. Return flights leave Cape Town at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and arrives in Washington at 5:50 a.m. the following day. The new service is operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring 48 business suites, 21 premium economy, 39 Economy PlusSM and 149 economy seats.
Alan Winde, premier of the Western Cape Government, said the flight would boost the province’s lucrative tourism sector.
“I would like to thank United Airlines for playing an important role, not just in reviving our economy after a turbulent few years, but also for giving the country’s aviation industry some much-needed help, too,” Windle said.
