The Pride of America had been scheduled to call in Kahului, Maui, from Aug. 13-14. A spokesperson for NCL said the decision was made to “avoid stressing the local resources” as the island continues to battle wildfires that have killed more than 50 and displaced thousands.
Princess Cruises also canceled the Emerald Princess’ Aug. 14 call in Lahaina and will instead visit Kona on the Big Island. The line said it is reviewing upcoming itineraries and will make any additional adjustments as needed.
NCL, the only major cruise line to sail year-round Hawaiian Islands itineraries, made a $50,000 donation to Maui United Way to support local relief efforts. Its team aboard the Pride of America is also mobilizing donations of surplus inventory, including clothes, towels and diapers for the Hawaii Community Foundation.
