Cruises: ‘Magic carpet’ and ‘martini glass hot tubs’ – new celebrity sails from UK shores

CRUISE lovers are in for a luxurious treat with the latest ship on offer from Celebrity Cruises. The new Celebrity Apex is set to amaze customers with state-of-the-art technology and memorable design features. Set to depart from Southhampton next April, customers will have the opportunity to sail the seas aboard a ship which boasts is own “magic carpet” as well as unique features including a rooftop garden and “martini glass” hot tubs. A “snapshot of modern luxury” the Celebrity Apex will be carrying travellers to Bruges and Amsterdam on a short preview trip before departing on its maiden voyage Spain and Portugal.

With these four new and longer Mediterranean sailings, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the peak European experience in true Celebrity style

The brand new cruise ship is making the most of innovative architecture and design, incorporating modern technology along the way, to create one of their most unique ships to date.

Part of the cruise operators Celebrity Edge line, the ship will employ facial recognition technology set to speed up the boarding experience.

Passengers can avoid queues by simply uploading a selfie to the Celebrity cruises app.

Once onboard a word of experience awaits, with the ship boasting an incredible 29 eateries, open-air plunge pool and on-board garden.

One of the ship’s most unique features comes in the form of the “magic carpet” – a moving deck the size of a tennis court and spanning 13 storeys. The unique concept is the first cantilevered, floating platform to feature on a ship and offers views of ocean surroundings, while customers relax at the ocean bar.

Atop the resort, deck stand two Hollywood-style, 2-storey Martini glass hot tubs, as well as a 23-metre lap pool, pool bar and private cabanas.

Fitness enthusiasts can get their daily workout in too, with the deck home to a jogging track spanning almost a quarter of a mile.

Cruisers can also opt for str treatment in the ships specialist spa, which has a range of 124 therapies on offer across its 23 treatment rooms.

An onboard botanical garden, aptly named Eden and complete with cocktail bar, offers nature lovers a moment of tranquillity.

Dining onboard is orchestrated by Michelin star chef Cornelius Gallagher who has developed an array of dishes from across the globe all ready to be served up in one of 7 speciality restaurants.

Meanwhile, diners are set to be wowed by 3D tabletop characters who provide light entertainment to customers between courses at the ships La Petit Chef restaurant.

The Celebrity Apex sets sail on its preview trip from Southampton on April 1, taking passengers to Bruges and Amsterdam.

Customers can pick from one of six different staterooms available, all designed by Kelly Hoppen MBE.

Prices for the preview trip start from £1,249 PP.

Meanwhile, those hoping to step aboard the ship’s Maiden voyage are looking at a cost of £1,329 PP.

Passengers will take in the sights of Bilbao, Lisbon, Porto and Paris before returning home to Southampton.

Other sailings that will be offered include three 10- and 11- night Eastern Mediterranean sailings and an 11-night Western Mediterranean sailing.

Speaking about the new ship, CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said: “Now, with these four new and longer Mediterranean sailings, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the peak European experience in true Celebrity style.”

Globetrotters prioritising cruise holidays are in luck, as the news follows on from an announcement that enables passengers to benefit from an extra £100 cashback.

Cruise comparison website SuperCruises is offering travellers £100 in spending money up until 31 October.

However, passengers must be spending a sum of £1,000 or more in order to benefit from the deal.
