Barry Sternlicht’s SH Hotels & Resorts is bringing its Treehouse Hotels brand to the U.S., with the first outpost slated for Silicon Valley.
Scheduled to open late next year in Sunnyvale, California, Treehouse’s first U.S. hotel will be built using environmentally friendly modular construction methods as well as a partial repurposing of some existing buildings.
Trees removed during the construction process will also be repurposed, with local artists using the wood to create nature-themed sculptures.
The 254-room Treehouse Sunnyvale will offer guestrooms with private outdoor spaces, including a mix of ground-floor patios, balconies and terraces. Rooms will be outfitted with wooden bookcases and ceiling beams, farm table-inspired desks and colorful pillows and quilts.
Other amenities will include a café with indoor and outdoor seating, a garden, a courtyard pool with cabanas and a hot tub, a fitness center, and meeting and event space.
The Treehouse Sunnyvale will be Treehouse’s third location, joining two hotels in England. The Treehouse Hotel London debuted in late 2019 and the Treehouse Hotel Manchester is due to open early next year. A hotel in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood is expected to open in 2025.
On Treehouse’s website, Sternlicht describes the Treehouse concept as “a special place that feels more ‘home’ than ‘hotel’ … cozy, welcoming, warm, and somehow familiar … an oasis after a long day that at once refreshes, inspires and delights.”
SH Hotels & Resorts’ brand portfolio also includes 1 Hotels and Baccarat Hotels.
