The CDC’s inbound Covid-19 testing requirement is “the single biggest barrier” to travel’s recovery, according to ASTA, which is praising a group of legislators pushing to remove the requirement.
A bipartisan group led by Rep. Lou Correa (D-Calif.) has asked to exempt fully vaccinated travelers from the requirement to provide proof of a negative Covid test before entering the country.
“While we understand the rationale behind the inbound testing order when it was put in place in January 2021, it continues to present a number of challenges to our constituents who must or desire to travel internationally,” they wrote in a letter to President Joe Biden.
ASTA worked with Rep. Correa’s office in gathering signatures for the letter.
Eben Peck, ASTA’s executive vice president for advocacy, noted that a change in policy would match those made in the U.K., E.U., Canada and Australia.
“It would also supercharge the recovery of the travel agency business,” Peck said, noting that many Americans have been putting off international travel because of the Covid testing requirement.
