On the first episode of the ITV series, Alfie Best, the founder of the largest residential park home operator in Europe, is now a millionaire who wants to find out what is actually happening behind the doors of his holiday home parks.

Alfie owns Wyldecrest Parks, a total of 91 caravan and residential parks operating across the UK.

Due to the ongoing travel restrictions, more people than ever are opting for staycations this year, which has resulted in a huge profit for him and his business.

Alfie explained how he offers the most affordable holiday homes: “We are allowing people to sell up and live the life that they’ve never had, at an affordable price.”

Although most holiday businesses are struggling due to the pandemic, Wyldecrest Parks has actually grown at a big scale– currently, by £70 million every year.

On the ITV series, the caravan park owner decided to go undercover to see what is really going on at the home parks and to make sure campers get a good service.

At Wyldecrest Parks, caravans are available for sale from £20,000 to £200,000.

Alfie pretended to be a salesman trying to sell one of his caravans to find out some campers are extremely picky.

But what should you be looking out for when viewing a caravan?

When viewing a van, it is important to take into consideration the surroundings.

The caravan must have a prime location, however, being too picky can cost you a lot of money, as a spot by the waterside, for example, is usually way more expensive than others.

Alfie explained how an empty spot they had by the lake at their Lake District park could be sold for £120,000.

Campers looking to buy a caravan should also take the noise into consideration.

In today’s episode, a couple decided not to buy a caravan just because it was too close to a pub.

Other factors to consider when buying a holiday home is the amount of sunlight it gets – especially important for the winter months – and that the site and the caravan are clean and in good condition.

You should be looking for a comfortable van but also a park that offers a good service.

Many campers claimed a ‘clubhouse’ is essential for the perfect staycation.

At a holiday home park in Northumberland, many residents claimed the best part was the clubhouse.

“Without the clubhouse, this wouldn’t be the same. Not having it would detriment the park,” one resident said.

“It’s great for meeting people and chat with them,” explained another camper.

When going on a staycation, it is important to look for a place that can offer entertainment and activities, especially when travelling with family and friends.
