Porthcurno Bay in West Cornwall has been named one of the UK and Ireland's best picnic spots with incredible sights that are almost as good as a holiday in the Caribbean.
The beach has won numerous awards, in no small part due to its dramatic granite cliffs, turquoise water and soft white sand, reports 2Chill.
This particular award came from the popular drinks brand Volvic Touch of Fruit and UK staycation community Hidden Gems as they released a list of picnic hotspots, with Porthcurno rating very high in the list.
For locals and regular tourists, the awards comes as no surprise. The stunning area of natural beauty has 509 five star reviews on Tripadvisor, with numerous reviewers marvelling at its “Caribbean” qualities.
Named for its curved rock pinnacles – ‘Porthcurno’ means ‘Cove of Horns’ – the bay boasts views of Treryn Dinas, an Iron Age cliff castle, and Logan Rock, as well as the rugged Cornish countryside.
The bay is located on the South West Coast path and can be easily accessed by walkers in both directions.
The car park is also a five minute walk from the bay for those who prefer to drive.
A Volvic statement reads: “Nestled on the west coast of Cornwall and sheltered between two cliffs is Porthcurno Bay.
“With the soft white sand between your toes and turquoise ocean as far as the eye can see, pack up your picnic hamper and refresh with a cool Volvic Touch of Fruit… at this secluded oasis, you may just forget you’re in Britain!”
The collaboration is part of Volvic’s ‘Beyond Your Expectations’ campaign, which aims to encourage the UK to make the most of a staycation summer by elevating their picnic experiences.
Marie Chaigneau, Brand Manager at Danone Waters UK & Ireland, said: “After a difficult 18 months for the UK, we’re proud to be championing the Great British picnic, encouraging people to get out into nature and take their picnics one step further.
“We hope that our ‘Beyond Your Expectations’ picnic guide inspires people to make the most of the great outdoors and create memorable moments with friends and family this summer.”
The drinks connoisseur has also joined forces with celebrity chef Lisa Faulkner to create a special picnic menu.
Tripadvisor's 'best beach in Britain' looks like a Greek island
Lisa said: “As a nation, we love a picnic, but it’s all too easy to fall into the habit of going to the same spot and serving the same old sandwiches, when, all it really takes are a few simple tweaks to serve up a showstopping spread!
“For each of my recipes, I’ve taken inspiration from my top picnic picks, giving them a little twist to make them that little bit more special.”
The recipes include a strawberry, watermelon and mint mojito, and Muffaletta sandwich featuring crusty bread, cheese, olives and cured meats.
