The hotel openings across the UK set to save our summer

The hotels set to save our summer: Dozens of new openings are popping up at hotspots around the UK

  • Hilton is leading the charge, and its new-for-2021 hotels include the Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia
  • Premier Inn aims to open more than two dozen new sites by mid-summer, with one located in Blackpool
  • The retro-styled NYX Hotel, part of the Jury’s Inn group, has just opened close to London’s Covent Garden

Every week our Holiday Hero Neil Simpson takes an in-depth look at a brilliant holiday topic, doing all the legwork so you don’t have to. This week: New hotels with plenty of availability for summer.

Hotel chains are gearing up to save summer by opening dozens of new branches in hotspots across the country. Some also offer discounts to early-bird guests checking into the brand-new rooms.

Hilton (hilton.com) is leading the charge, and its new-for-2021 hotels include the Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia, a top choice for adventurous holidaymakers.

Soak up the views: Travelodge is focusing on classic holiday locations for many of its 2021 openings. It’s got a new hotel in Kendal, which is an easy drive from Windermere (pictured)

As well as mountain views, the hotel sits beside the Adventure Parc Snowdonia, which offers surfing, zip-lines, an assault course and climbing lessons – plus a big spa for quieter moments.

At Torquay on the English Riviera, there’s a new 131-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel looking directly over the harbour. It’s also well-positioned for whodunnit fans following the town’s Agatha Christie Literary Trail.

Premier Inn (premierinn.com) aims to open more than two dozen new sites by mid-summer. Top choices for family holidays include Blackpool’s North Pier, a five-minute walk from the Blackpool Tower (with its glass floor looking 380ft down to the street) and the Pleasure Beach.

Meanwhile, Scarborough’s North Bay has a new Premier Inn near the beach and castle, as does Sandown on the Isle of Wight, where the new seafront hotel is close to the Dinosaur Isle attraction.

Jury’s Inn can help if you want to stay near the theatres of London’s West End. Its colourful, retro-styled NYX Hotel has just opened on the edge of Covent Garden (pictured) and is charging a flat £99 a night for its first 999 bookings

In Scotland, the group is opening new hotels in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as Thurso, the country’s most northerly town, with its lighthouse, sandy beach and easy access to the Highlands.

The company is opening another new hotel in Bristol, close to the zoo and The Wave, the world’s biggest artificial surfing lake.

Travelodge (travelodge.co.uk) is focusing on classic holiday locations for many of its 2021 openings. It’s got a new hotel in Poole, which is perfect for visits to Bournemouth and the Jurassic Coast.

Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District, has also got a new site. Check in and you’re in the home of the mint cake and the popular Hawkshead Brewery, and an easy drive from Windermere. Head to Sandwich in Kent, and after exploring the town’s medieval buildings, go to arty Margate for the Turner Contemporary gallery.

Manchester’s new Hyatt Regency is just a short walk from free concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music (pictured)

Hyatt hotels (hyatt.com) are springing up in ‘under-the-radar’ holiday destinations such as Manchester.

New options include the city’s Hyatt Regency, where you can eat at the Laureate Restaurant that pays homage to Manchester University’s 25 Nobel Prize laureates.

You’re also just a short walk from free concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music. Get extra space at Hyatt House, where one-bedroom suites include mini-kitchens and big desks in ‘work zones’. Guests can have their laundry done for free.

Both hotels are well placed for tours of the Coronation Street set or the new I’m A Celebrity… Jungle Challenge experience in Salford’s Media City. A few miles out of the city is RHS Bridgewater, the first new Royal Horticultural Society garden in nearly two decades.
