Let’s be honest – holidaying at home is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

With international borders unlikely to open before at least mid-2022, all eyes are on what to see, where to stay and what to do in our own backyard.

But while many flock to Australia’s east coast or further out for an island escape, there’s one place that often gets overlooked.

Known as Engine Point, the stunning beach in South Australia looks like a slice of the Maldives – but without the exorbitant price tag associated with the luxury island.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, one Aussie traveller said when she visited the beach, she was able to just lay in the shallow water and watch the fish swim by.

“The water was something you would see in the Maldives!” Carly told Daily Mail Australia.

“We had the whole spot to ourselves all afternoon and you could just lay in the shallow water and watch the fish swim around.”

The stunning beach is located in Point Lincoln National Park, and the no-amenity camping ground is only accessible by 4WD.

“It doesn’t get much better than this,” one person captioned.

“What a ripper little spot … We had emus cruising around, pods of dolphins swimming by and even spotted three peninsula brown snakes right near camp just as a heads up!” another said.

“This is our very own paradise,” another wrote on a photo of their visit.
