Customers who were caught up in Southwest Airlines’ holiday meltdown will receive 25,000 Rapid Rewards points as compensation.
The points, said CEO Bob Jordan in emails received by customers, equate to a base fare redemption value of more than $300.
Southwest is providing the Rapid Rewards credits to customers who were scheduled to fly between Dec. 24 and Jan. 2, but whose flights were either canceled or delayed by more than three hours.
“It’s important to point out that this gesture is in addition to customers’ reimbursements and refunds on flights and incidental expenses related to their recent disruption in travel,” the airline said in a statement.
Southwest canceled more than 13,700 flights over that period — 35.6% of its schedule, according to FlightAware.
