World's Most Expensive Cruise: Guests show off their suite

Seven Seas Splendour is the world’s most expensive cruise ship and the most luxurious of the Regent fleet. Channel 5 joined the ship as it prepared for its first ever Christmas cruise through the Canary Islands and the Caribbean.

Viewers joined Cruise Director John Barron, as he admired the “most expensive address at sea”.

The luxury Regent suite costs guests an incredible £8,000 per night and is 412 square feet of opulence.

John told viewers: “Everywhere you look, it’s perfect.” It certainly seemed like it, with the lucky guests even getting a Picasso on the wall.

Viewers were then taken behind the scenes and inside the ship’s huge fridge with Food and Beverage Director, Gianluca.

He said: “Christmas begins in October when we receive the first information on the menu.”

The world’s most expensive Christmas cruise offers an incredible array of dishes for the lucky guests to enjoy.

Onboard the ship were 2,000 kilos of lobster, £50,000 worth of scallops and eight tonnes of the finest chicken, veal and lamb.

But it wouldn’t be Christmas without turkey and Gianluca had his guests covered. The ship carried an incredible 350 pounds of turkey.

Each of the luxury birds weighed a hefty 15-20 pounds. No one would be going hungry on the world’s most expensive Christmas cruise.

Lucky passengers Susan and David, from Bognor Regis were onboard for their first ever cruise.

The couple showed off their luxurious lodgings to viewers, including the master bed worth £3,500.

Susan and David were welcomed aboard with champagne and canapés before Susan showed off a sparkly number for the Christmas cruise party. 

But the biggest challenge for staff took place out of sight from the cruise liner’s lucky guests.

Cruise director John had to lead his team of staff as they decorated the ship for Christmas while the guests were on a short excursion.

As the 70 boxes of Christmas decorations were loaded onboard, John had a huge challenge coordinating the secret mission, telling viewers: “I might have to skip dinner”.

The ship’s decorations cost an eye watering $86,200 (£64,257). Staff had to decorate the ship with 1,000 designer baubles, 18 luxury Christmas trees and half a mile of garland ribbon in just a couple of hours.

John added: “I don’t think the guests know, all they’ve seen is these giant cardboard boxes.”

Joining John to decorate the ship was Julia, the ship’s very own ‘Queen of Christmas’. The entertainment team member had 24 pairs of Christmas earrings to entertain guests.

She said: “I’ve taken on the role over the years. It’s my favourite time of the year.”

As the guests returned from their day trip, they were amazed to see the ship fully decorated for Christmas.

One stated: “The beauty walking in was unbelievable and unmatched.”

As the ship pulled up to its private island getaway in the Bahamas, guests were treated to pina coladas and paddle-boarding.

As one guest remarked: “The beer’s cold, the weather’s warm, what more could you ask for?”
