Cruise guests warned as drinks package ‘violation’ could ‘result in fines’

Although food is usually included on a cruise holiday, alcoholic drinks or even soft drinks often cost extra.

Guests can choose to buy their drinks as they go or they can opt to purchase a drinks package when they book.

Drinks packages vary and guests can choose soft drinks or alcohol to enjoy an unlimited amount on their cruise.

James Cole, founder and managing director of Panache Cruises, explained when guests could be fined over their drinks package.

He said: “Practicing good cruise etiquette will prevent you getting labelled ‘that cruiser’ who everyone is whispering about and trying to avoid in the ship’s public areas.”

Don’t share your drinks package

James said: “The add-on drinks packages are designed for individual consumption and priced accordingly.

“That’s why sharing one package between multiple people is considered a violation of cruise line policies and can result in fines.”

Sharing a drinks package is likely to break the company’s rules and passengers could be fined or banned from drinking.

Drink responsibly

James said: “It can be difficult to limit your alcohol consumption if you have an alcoholic beverage package included in your fare.

“However, just because you can have all the drinks you want doesn’t mean that you should drink more than your body can handle.

“Don’t be a drunken and disruptive passenger, as this can ruin the cruise experience for others.

“It’s best to avoid spending your days recovering from a hangover and instead enjoy everything else the cruise has to offer.”

Guests are usually banned from drinking in the ships’ hot tub as the hot temperatures and alcohol can cause dehydration.

Some cruise lines allow passengers to bring a limited amount of alcohol onboard to consume in their cabin.
