A woman has revealed ‘exactly’ what she says to airlines to get a ‘free’ upgrade to business class.
Louise Truman often shares her top tips to travel on a budget with her 90,000 TikTok followers.
The globe trotter is currently soaking up the sun and culture in Costa Rica.
Louise isn’t afraid of travelling the world by herself and is open about how she has become a solo traveller – and, she is not scared about bartering herself a ‘free’ flight upgrade either.
Racking up air miles can be pricey, especially if you want to do it in style.
So Louise has shared her clever ‘hack’ to travel in business class for a fraction of the cost.
In a viral TikTok clip that has now reached 514,000 views, Louise has explained ‘exactly’ how she has wiggled her way into a flight upgrade.
As she relaxed in the comfy looking plane chair and sipped on a drink, she wrote on the screen: “Exactly how to ask for a free upgrade:
“Simple and polite: 'Are there any opportunities for free upgrades today? It’s a dream of mine to fly in business!'.
“Volunteer for an inconvenience: 'I know this is a busy route, I’m happy taking the next flight if you’re able to upgrade my seat!'.”
The frequent traveller shared that she often asks flight attendants for the upgrade when she gets onto the flight.
Stunned at Louise’s tip, many people felt inspired and admitted they wanted to try the hack on their next trip.
One person commented: “Omg I have to try.”
Another user added: “I’m gonna try it for my next flight.”
While a third person voiced: “I always ask and 8/10 times it works. Just say is there any complimentary upgrades available.”
However, not everyone was so convinced about Louise’s ‘hack’.
One person remarked: “Never works!”
And, this user said: “I work for an airline, this would never work with us.”
Someone else noted: “I did it, never helped. They say you want an upgrade you got to pay."
Louise shared that this trick does not work all of the time as her ‘success rate’ is 50%.
She said in the comments: “I have only ever done this on flying blue airlines though! I’ve had three out of six haul flights in the last year upgraded.”
