Although winter is arguably one of the most beautiful times of year in the UK, January can feel like a long hard slog.
If you want to start 2024 under the sun, luckily there are a few destinations that don’t tend to get chilly.
In an exclusive experiment for Express.co.uk, I scoured Skyscanner to find the cheapest flights for British tourists.
Of course, if you’d rather stay in the UK, there are some incredible staycation destinations to add to your 2024 bucket list.
But where are the cheapest destinations to fly for the sun in January?

Marrakech
I found return flights to Marrakech for £25 from London, £41 from Manchester, £65 from Edinburgh and £70 from Birmingham.
The Moroccan city can be as warm as 19 degrees in January and its souk is probably one of the world’s best shopping destinations.

Paphos
I found return flights to Paphos in Cyprus for under £50 return from London, Manchester and Newcastle.
The city on Cyprus’ southwestern coast reaches temperatures of 16 degrees in January and is the ideal spot for a coastal walk.
Thought to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, tourists can admire Aphrodite’s Rock from the shore.
Malta
I found return flights to Valetta for £40 and under from London, Manchester, Bournemouth, Nottingham and Liverpool.
Malta can reach 16 degrees in January and the capital city has plenty of historic gems to discover.
It was a favourite destination of the late Queen Elizabeth II who spent some time living there after her marriage.
