Harrods customers ask if they should ‘remortgage’ after discovering cost of tea

How much would you pay for a cup of tea?

If you made it at home, it would cost mere pennies.

But if you headed into Harrods, you’d have to get change back from a £10 note.

The iconic London department store is currently running a Prada pop-up cafe.

And as it's collaborating with the luxury fashion house, the prices are pretty extortionate.

While customers can expect to pay £6.25 for a mug of “majestic earl grey” or breakfast tea, a flat white or latte would set them back £6.50.

Then for alcoholic beverages, Champagne and wine can cost up to £400 or £230 respectively.

Food is equally expensive.

At breakfast, you’ll be charged £13 for yoghurt and granola or £8 for bread and jam.

Then lunchtime offerings include saffron and parmesan risotto – which would set them back £38 – or spaghetti – which comes in at £29.

As we’re experiencing a cost of living crisis, the luxury experience definitely isn’t for everyone.

On social media, some have shared their outrage at the prices.

One asked: “Do you have to remortgage to eat there I wonder?”

Some are excited about the new Prada Cafe though.

One fan wrote: “Okay so who’s gonna take me to the new Prada Cafe at Harrods?”

And another said: “Add this to the list of places when we reach London.”

We’re guessing you’re paying for the experience rather than the cuppa.

Harrods drew inspiration from Prada’s flagship boutique, housed near the Duomo in Milan, when creating the setting.

There’s swanky black-and-white chequered flooring, velvet sofas, crystal glasses and Japanese porcelain tableware.
