Cyprus attracts UK tourists year after year thanks to its sun-kissed shorelines and turquoise waters. However, holidays are a little different in 2021, with a number of Covid restrictions to bear in mind.

Cyprus has set out its own entry requirements for UK arrivals hoping to visit.

Most recently, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updates its travel advice in line with these entry requirements, with new information on the Cyprus Flight Pass.

The nation is currently on the UK’s amber list, which means there are also rules to follow when returning to the UK from Cyprus.

What are the current entry rules for Cyprus?

Travellers from the UK are permitted to enter the Republic of Cyprus, however as the UK is categorised as “Red” by the Cypriot government, there are a number of strict requirements.

According to the FCDO: “Travellers with proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations are not required to take a PCR test before departure or on arrival.”

Travellers aged 12 and above who are not vaccinated will need to undergo PCR tests before departure and on arrival.

The FCDO explains: “Passengers coming from Red Category countries without proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations must undergo a PCR test within 72 hours prior to departure and provide proof of a negative result.

“You must then undergo another PCR test upon arrival at Larnaca or Paphos airports.

“Test results should be available within three hours through the online platform. The cost of both tests is borne by the passenger.”

PCR test results taken before travel can be shown in the form of an email or a text message, but the result must include the date and time the test was taken.

NHS services should not be used to facilitate travel.

In all instances, passengers must ensure they have a Cyprus flight pass.

This can be obtained from the Cyprus Flight Pass website. Passengers who are taking a PCR test to facilitate travel must ensure this result is uploaded to the Flight Pass within 24 hours of departure.

The FCDO states: “You will be asked to present your flight pass prior to boarding and on arrival at immigration.”

Travellers will also need to obtain a Cyprus SafePass which can be used to access public amenities and services such as shopping centres and catering establishments.

The FCDO explains: “As of August 1, to qualify for a SafePass, visitors to Cyprus are required to take a PCR or antigen (rapid) test on day seven following their arrival into the country and then every 72 hours, unless able to provide proof of either: having received two doses of the vaccine or having contracted coronavirus in the past six months.”

Travellers heading to the north of Cyprus from the UK will be required to undergo a PCR test within 72 hours prior to entry.

Those who are fully vaccinated will not be required to self-isolate.

All other travellers are required to quarantine for five days at authority-designated accommodation.

What are the amber list rules for returning to the UK from Cyprus?

As Cyprus is on the amber list for travel, passengers who are fully vaccinated are able to enter the UK without quarantine.

However, they must take a pre-departure Covid test within 72 hours of travel. They must also pre-book and pay for a PCR Covid test to be taken on or before day two of their arrival.

The corresponding reference number for this test should be included in a passenger locator form filled out prior to departure.

Unvaccinated passengers face 10 days of self-isolation on their entry to the UK.

They must take a pre-departure Covid test, as well as book and pay for PCR tests to be taken on days two and eight.

As with vaccinated travellers, the reference numbers for these tests should be included on the passenger locator form.
