JUMP TO…
easyJet is known for its budget-friendly offering on flights and holidays, with return flights on offer for as little as £26.99 if you book far enough in advance. However, since 2021, the airline has reduced the amount of hand luggage passengers are allowed to bring onboard, which means if your bag is too big, you could be slapped with some excess fees at the airport.
If you want to save money, it’s well worth investing in a cabin bag that fits the airline’s specific dimensions, meaning you won’t need to shell out for the large cabin bag fee or checked luggage option when you fly.
If you’re a frequent easyJet passenger, then you’re likely up-to-date with the latest rules. But if not, it’s best to fully understand exactly how much hand luggage you are entitled to before stepping onboard. You can read our full guide to all of the latest easyJet luggage rules and charges here, as well as some extra tips and tricks to save you money.
Passengers are urged to check the size of their carry-on luggage before arriving at the airport, with easyJet’s website stating: “We check cabin bag sizes before you board.
“If your cabin bag is bigger than the maximum size allowed or if you bring a large cabin bag to the departure gate without the correct seat selection or without one pre-booked for your flight, it won’t be able to go in the cabin. We’ll have to check it into the aircraft hold and charges will apply.”
All easyJet passengers are entitled to one item of hand luggage measuring a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including any handles or wheels.
This means small wheelie bags are permitted, however, all hand luggage must fit under the seat in front of you.
Additionally, hand luggage can weigh no more than 15kg, and passengers must be able to lift their own bags without assistance.
If you do want to bring a larger cabin bag onboard, then there is a fee associated. Some passengers can bring a large cabin bag on board measuring 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including any handles or wheels) if they:
- Purchased an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat
- Booked a large cabin bag for their flight
- Are an easyJet Plus cardholder
- Booked a FLEXI fare
This can cost anywhere from £5.99 for a large cabin bag purchased in advance to £48 if you need to pay an oversized luggage fee at the airport. Furthermore, if you arrive at the airport and your luggage is found to exceed the specified amount, you could be charged £40 to check it into the hold.
But, the good news is that there are plenty of bags out there which are specifically made to meet easyJet’s luggage allowance. And, according to one travel expert’s recommendation, the compact nature of some of these bags means you can have “the last laugh” at the airport.

Sharing her review of the product, Evelyn said: “I’ve used this with easyJet many times.
“It fits perfectly into their bag measuring thing. They might actually stop you and ask you to put it in there, and I think that’s only because it has the handles and wheels so they think it’s too big. But you will have the last laugh when it fits in there perfectly.”
She added: “This is a great suitcase”.
Measuring 45 x 36 x 20cm this bag is ideal for those travelling with just one small cabin bag on an easyJet flight. The wheels and extendable handle also make it easy to transport.
