The Canary Islands are a summer holiday classic thanks to their beautiful beaches, not to mention the hot and sunny weather.
However, intrepid explorers who aren't tied to the school holidays may want to consider booking a trip for autumn instead. The perks? You'll still get to enjoy the sunny and balmy weather, the bars and restaurants are still open, and you won't be fighting for beach space with the peak season crowds.
Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are some of the hotspots where you can find plenty to see and do for a memorable trip too.
We take a look at some of the reasons why the Canaries need to be on your radar for a holiday in autumn…
The sunshine: The Canaries boast year-round sunshine, and during September and October you'll get to enjoy average temperatures of around 26C in the day, which can be ideal for hitting the beach or doing some exploring. (Pack layers though as it can get a little chillier later in the evenings!).
The beaches: Whether it's Tenerife's golden sandy beaches that are calling to you, or you want to explore the volcanic landscape to be found on Lanzarote's shores, there's a beach for everyone on offer.
Volcanic landscapes: Expect some dramatic landscapes to make for the perfect photo background, such as the volcanic soils in Lanzarote's Timanfaya National Park. In Tenerife, it's Mount Teide that tends to be a hit with hikers – but if you don't want to take on the climb, the cable car ride offers up some scenic views too!
The attractions: Each island has heaps of charm, and you won't be stuck for things to see and do. We’re talking everything from historic Old Towns to bustling promenades filled with bars and restaurants, as well as water parks, beautiful beaches and hiking trails.
