Carnival Cruise Line began its 2022 season from San Francisco this week, the brand’s first time homeporting in the Bay Area in its 50-year history.
The Carnival Miracle departed on a four-day Baja Mexico cruise from the Port of San Francisco. Following that sailing, the 2,124-passenger ship will begin a series of 11 Alaska cruise vacations; the 10-day itineraries feature calls in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Skagway and Icy Strait Point as well as in Victoria, British Columbia, and includes some scenic cruising through Tracy Arm Fjord (stops vary depending on cruise date). There is also a second Mexico cruise planned at the end of the Alaska season, and there is also a Hawaii sailing planned.
Carnival said the its first-ever San Francisco sailings expand its West Coast service offerings, making it the line with the most passenger embarkations from California this year.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival, said homeporting in San Francisco comes “after years of anticipation.”
The ship is part of Carnival’s largest Alaska deployment in history, with three ships sailing to the Last Frontier this season from San Francisco and Seattle. The May 2 Alaska sailing of the Carnival Splendor from Seattle will mark the return to service of Carnival’s full fleet of 23 ships.
Currently, the Carnival Radiance and Carnival Panorama are operating year-round from Long Beach, Calif., on itineraries to the Mexican Riviera.
