A travel blogger has warned people not to visit swim-up bars in hotels because they're not as hygienic as it looks.

Whitney, from Vancouver in Canada, shared a "pro tip" to her 23,000 fans on TikTok, saying: "Do not hang out in the pool where the swim-up bar is."

While swim-up bars might seem the perfect idea to relax at with a drink on holiday, the reality might be much more different than it seems.

Whitney, who appears to be staying in a resort in Riu Baja, California, explains: "There were literally intoxicated guests admitting that they were peeing in the pool here.

"One girl didn’t understand why some people were leaving the pool to use the washroom."

A viewer commented: "I’ve stayed at this hotel, I watched people sit at the pool bar, drink all day and not get out. I did not use that pool."

"The water is always warmer at the bar," a second joked and a third added: "I went on a cruise and watched a group of people sit and drink in a pool for hours."

This came after a flight attendant gave equally grim advice on air travel.

Brenda, who goes by the name "Flight Bae B" on TikTok, said it's best to avoid using toilet paper in plane loos and use facial tissue instead.

She explained that young travellers could miss their aim during turbulence which could come at a cost for loo paper.

"If you don't want that kind of stuff in your nether regions, the tissue paper is usually up top, it's cleaner," Brenda said in the video.

"So just use that instead of toilet paper."
