Total gem! The superyacht inspired by a 128-carat Cartier diamond

A total gem! The lavish superyacht inspired by a rare 128-carat Cartier diamond, with jewel-shaped windows and three ‘waterfall’ pools that flow into one another

  • The Stella del Sud superyacht’s design – created by an Italian studio – is based on a Cartier diamond
  • There are eight ‘VIP cabins’ as well as an owner’s suite, which has an aquarium built into the ceiling
  • Other features on board include a helipad and a main saloon that’s ‘inspired by the most elegant penthouses’

It would be a jewel in the crown of any billionaire’s fleet.

Pictures have been released of a superyacht that’s inspired by the extremely rare 128-carat ‘Stella del Sud’ diamond – now owned by Cartier – that was found in Brazil in 1853. Taking its cue from the rock, the superyacht has a ‘decorative jewel’ feature on its sides created by a ‘spectacular side window glass design that connects all decks’.

Features on the 361ft- (110m) long Stella del Sud superyacht include a cinema, helipad and three ‘integrated swimming pools’ that flow into one another to create a ‘waterfall effect’.

The Italian studio behind the superyacht, Gabriele Teruzzi, describes it as a ‘glistening diamond’ with Art Deco touches.

The helipad can be found on the foredeck, which also features an ‘intimate’ lounge area with sunbeds and L-shaped sofas and a swimming pool.

Moving to the aft, there’s a 75ft- (23m) long open ‘beach area’. Spreading out over almost 300 square metres (3,229 sq ft), it’s inspired by the Royal Palace of Caserta in Italy, the largest royal residence in the world.

Here you’ll find the ‘waterfall effect’ pools, as well as a waterfall feature. The aft has been designed over several split levels to create the sensation that passengers in the ship’s interior are ‘directly facing the sea’.

Both sides of the hull have doors that open to create two 323-sq-ft (30-sq-m) terraces – one of which is pictured

On the 3,500-sq-ft (330-sq-m) sun deck, meanwhile, there’s a lounge area with a hot tub and an al fresco dining space.

And two further outdoor spaces can be created by doors on the side of the hull. They open to form two 323-sq-ft (30 sq m) terraces, and there’s a large tender garage towards the bow.

Gliding into the superyacht’s interior, the double-height main saloon is ‘inspired by the most modern and elegant penthouses’, with ‘large windows’, decorative panels designed to look like ‘magnificent peacock tails’, and ‘rain effect’ lighting.

The main deck is also home to a piano lounge and eight ‘VIP cabins’, four of which feature ‘integrated terraces’.

Climb the spiral staircase to reach the upper aft deck, where you’ll find a dining area.

The owner’s suite occupies the bridge deck – it boasts ‘his and hers’ bathrooms, both of which have a hot tub and a salt wall.

The suite also has gold sculptures, ’room-size wardrobes’ and an office ‘for attending to any necessary business whilst away on vacation’. What’s more, there’s an aquarium built into the ceiling above the bed.

For a spot of pampering, passengers can make their way to the lower deck, which is complete with a wellness area with a beauty and massage room, a gym, a sauna, and a steam room.

It also features a multifunctional space called the ‘Aqua Room’, which has a bar and a large hot tub and is decorated in teak wood with gold detailing.

The cinema, meanwhile, lies further down on the bilge deck.

According to the designers, the overall layout sets out to appeal to potential owners who want to host a ‘glamorous party’ or simply ‘relax with a drink’ on the high seas.

Stella del Sud, currently a concept, is not the first intriguing design by the Gabriele Peruzzi studio – it previously dreamt up a superyacht with a towering perch that sits 125ft (38m) above the water.
