Top travel tips for an Easter break or a summer holiday

Millions of us need a break from the cost-of-living crisis but holidays do not come cheap, although with a little planning you can keep the cost down.

Whether you are lining up a last-minute Easter break or your summer holiday, the following tips from QuirkyAccom.com founder Jess Twitchin may help.

Most people book their holidays for the weekend but travellers can often find lower rates and better deals by booking mid-week, Twitchin advised. “Check first, as some accommodation providers have set check-in days.”

Seek out last-minute deals to make bigger savings. “Hotels, guesthouses and holiday cottages often offer discounts to fill unsold rooms. It helps if you can be flexible on location, property type and dates.”

Visiting less popular destinations is another great way to save and avoid crowds. “Popular tourist hotspots will inevitably be expensive and crowded, especially during peak period. You might find a hidden gem.”

Another option is to hire a holiday home with others or even several families, to spread the cost.

To cut the cost of eating out, look for vouchers or coupons online to save without compromising on luxury.

“Many restaurants and cafes offer discounts or special deals via their websites or social media channels. Or talk to your hotel or guesthouse, who may partner with local businesses that offer discounts to guests.”

Accommodation, travel and food costs can quickly add up, with entertainment expenses adding to the pressure on budgets, Twitchin added: “Before you go, research free attractions such as museums, parks, and galleries, to create a fun and varied itinerary that won’t break the bank.”
