This Pass From Amtrak Lets You See the Country By Train—And It's $200 Off Right Now

There is little more exciting than a vacation. And after more than a year spent at home, you’re likely craving an extra-long summer trip. Lucky for you, Amtrak has you covered. The company has brought back its USA Rail Pass, which allows customers to travel around the country for up to 30 days. The best part? For a limited time, you can score tickets for only $299—that’s a savings of $200 off the normal price of $499!

The USA Rail Pass will cover your fare in Coach class on up to 10 trips over a 30-day period. If you snag your pass before June 22nd, you’ll get the discounted rate, which means you’ll pay less than $30 a ride, which is a massive discount given how pricey some rides can get. Plus, it’s significantly cheaper than most plane rides (and more scenic!).

With over 500 destinations to choose from, you can craft the most epic summer cross-country trip. But you’ll need to plan wisely: According to Amtrak, one “trip” is equivalent to one travel segment, so if you need to make a connection during a ride, you’ll be using two out of your 10 trips. On the other hand, some of the longest direct routes—like San Antonio to Chicago—would be considered one trip.

“We want to offer customers a truly unique way to travel this summer,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer Roger Harris. “With the new electronic USA Rail Pass, customers can take advantage of a great value and newly streamlined web and mobile app interfaces to make managing personalized travel plans convenient and easy,” he adds. All aboard!
