Spain still has Covid rules in place for Brits visiting this half term

The October half-term is fast approaching and many Brits have booked to fly to sunny Spain for the break.

But, it can be tricky to know what Covid rules are still in place across Europe.

Almost all European countries have dropped their Covid-19 restrictions for British holidaymakers – but Spain has retained some rules.

Those who are fully vaccinated need to bring proof of their jabs and ensure that they are considered valid.

This means that those who have had a booster are considered fully vaccinated and there is no expiry date for booster jabs.

However, if you’re 18 or older and have not had a booster then you must have had either two doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine approved by Spain between 14 and 270 days ago.

Those aged 12 to 17 who have not had a booster must have had their vaccine at least 14 days ago, but there is no upper limit on how long ago the vaccine was given.

Children under 12 do not need to show proof of vaccination.

If you are an unvaccinated traveller you can still enter Spain however you must meet other requirements.

You must be able to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test – either a PCR taken within 72-hours of departure or an antigen test taken within 24 hours of departure.

Alternatively you can show medical certificate of recovery from Covid-19 within the last six months.

The gov.uk website states: “You are no longer required to complete a health control form prior to travel. This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.

“You may be subject to additional checks at the point of entry including a temperature check, visual health assessment, or testing on arrival.

“Passengers may also be contacted and required to undertake a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification test – NAAT (PCR or similar) at any point up to 48 hours after their arrival in Spain.”

Always check the most up-to-date restrictions before booking or flying on holiday at gov.uk.
