Palace of Versailles opens new ultra-luxury hotel with after hours access

The Palace of Versailles is famous around the world for its luxurious interiors, dramatic gardens and Hall of Mirrors.

And now, for the first time, guests can spend the night at the palace rather than leaving in the evening.

You’ll feel like you’re in a dream – or at least a historical drama – when staying at the new luxury hotel by Airelles.

Le Grand Contrôle is nestled inside the gate of the magnificent Château and the decor is utterly breathtaking.

You’ll feel like royalty as you admire the 18th Century decor which has been recreated right down to the fabrics, chandeliers and period furniture.

French artisans and craftspeople were asked to restore existing features like the wood panelling and they’ve done a cracking job.

If you stay at the hotel then you’ll have after-hours access to the palace and its ground after everyone else has left.

Now that’s a sight few have seen!

There are even areas you can go to which are usually closed to visitors and private tours before/after the general public are allowed to explore.

Plus, there are Michelin-starred meals and even themed experiences to try including a Marie Antoinette themed stay with private tour, facial treatment, macaron tasting and a gourmet dinner.

Or, you can dress in costumes from the period drama Versailles for a photoshoot in the Hall of Mirrors.

You’ll enjoy unrivalled views of iconic spots on the grounds including the Orangerie, the Pièce d’Eau des Suisses and the Château itself.

The hotel has 14 magnificent rooms and suites with dining options created by chef Alain Ducasse who has a whopping 20 Michelin stars to his name!

Oh la la!

There’s also a luxury spa with a 15-metre indoor swimming pool.

Unsurprisingly, stays at the palace do not come cheap.

Prices start from €1,700 (£1458) although this does include access to a butler, daily tours of the palace and grounds, breakfast, afternoon tea and minibar, as well as use of boats and golf carts to explore.
